Superstar Rajinikanth is set for a rare back-to-back big-screen run, with two highly anticipated films lined up within a span of roughly three months. First up is Jailer 2, the Nelson Dilipkumar directorial that has officially locked October 15, 2026 as its theatrical release date. Produced by Sun Pictures, the action entertainer brings Rajinikanth back as Muthuvel Pandian, with Anirudh Ravichander returning as composer.

Jailer 2 features returning stars including Ramya Krishnan, Mohanlal, Shivarajkumar and Yogi Babu, alongside several new additions. The film continues the blockbuster franchise that established massive box office records, and fan expectations are riding high for the sequel’s October 2026 arrival.
Dharman Targets Pongal 2027
Following Jailer 2, Rajinikanth is expected to headline Dharman, his 173rd film, during the Pongal 2027 window. The film is directed by Ashwath Marimuthu and produced by Kamal Haasan under Raaj Kamal Films International, with Anirudh Ravichander handling the music. Dharman has undergone multiple changes behind the scenes before Ashwath came on board, but the project is now moving forward and has retained the Pongal target. The film reportedly features Mysskin, Simran, Raashi Khanna and Yogi Babu in supporting roles.
Pongal 2027 Scheduling Dilemma
Interestingly, Sivakarthikeyan’s Seyon is also being positioned for the Pongal 2027 season, creating a potential scheduling dilemma for Kamal Haasan’s production house. Seyon, directed by Sivakumar Murugesan and produced by Kamal Haasan and R. Mahendran, is a rural action drama starring Sivakarthikeyan, with Bhagyashree Borse as the female lead and music by Santhosh Narayanan.
The makers have already begun production, while industry reports have linked the film to a Pongal 2027 release. With both Dharman and Seyon coming from the same production banner, it would make little business sense to release two major films in the same crowded festive window, making a date adjustment for one of them a strong possibility.
